PTSD and Complex PTSD Therapy
Service pageThe timeline for trauma recovery is different for everyone. Some clients find relief from acute symptoms in a few months, while deeper, complex trauma may require longer-term support. We focus on steady, sustainable progress rather than rushing the process. We review this collaboratively and adjust the plan as your needs, preferences, and current capacity change.
Dawn Cox does not personally offer EMDR. Clients seeking EMDR are referred to clinical counsellors within her professional network who provide that modality. In her own practice, Dawn uses Somatic Experiencing and trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy — both evidence-based approaches that support the nervous system in processing and releasing traumatic stress.
Yes. The nervous system can hold onto trauma for decades. Therapy is effective at addressing these long-held patterns, helping you process past events and reduce their impact on your current life, regardless of how much time has passed. We review this collaboratively and adjust the plan as your needs, preferences, and current capacity change.
Virtual therapy can be highly effective for PTSD and C-PTSD, and many clients prefer the safety and comfort of their own home when discussing difficult topics. We ensure our virtual sessions maintain the same level of care and connection as in-person visits.
It is completely normal to feel overwhelmed. We actively monitor your comfort level and will pause to use grounding techniques whenever necessary. Your safety and emotional regulation are always the priority during our work together. We review this collaboratively and adjust the plan as your needs, preferences, and current capacity change.
Anxiety and Depression Counselling
Service pageCognitive Behavioural Therapy is a structured approach that can help you notice links among thoughts, emotions, and behaviour. In counselling, you may practise testing unhelpful assumptions and choosing responses that fit the present situation. Dawn discusses whether this approach suits your goals and adapts the pace collaboratively.
Some people use counselling alone, while others combine it with medication under medical guidance. Medication decisions belong with a physician or qualified prescriber. Our role is to help you understand patterns, build coping strategies, and discuss how counselling fits with any healthcare you already receive.
Session frequency is discussed with Dawn based on your goals, current capacity, and availability. Some people begin weekly or biweekly, while others need a different pace. The schedule can be reviewed as your circumstances change, and no standard frequency or timeline is presented as right for every client.
Low energy is a common symptom of depression. Within 24 hours of your appointment, you can switch to virtual, take a break, or shorten the session. Changes requested after that window are subject to the full session fee. Reach out early so we can find an arrangement that works for you.
Counselling can explore triggers and practise grounding or paced-breathing strategies that some people use during panic symptoms. Dawn will also discuss when medical assessment or additional support is appropriate. The plan is collaborative and is adjusted to your circumstances, preferences, and response to the work.

We are advocates for the relationship itself, helping both partners feel heard and understood while guiding you toward healthier ways of interacting. We review this collaboratively and adjust the plan as your needs, preferences, and current capacity change.

Clinical Supervision
Service pageWe offer both individual (one-on-one) and group supervision formats. We review this collaboratively and adjust the plan as your needs, preferences, and current capacity change.
The frequency of supervision depends on your caseload, experience level, and regulatory requirements.
